Once
a month we have a fun social evening
at someone's home. Because many of our active members are unable to come to the noon luncheon meetings b/c of work schedules, these social nights have been especially useful to keep everyone in the loop of what's happening.
FYI August 12th social will be at Don and Martha Smith's home. Everyone bring snacks/ beverages of your choice.
Below picture showing fun time at the May 2008 social at Don and Martha Smith's home.

FUR BALL 2008
And a good, no, great time was had by all.

Humane Society's First Fur Ball brought in over $21,000 for the HSU spay-neuter and foster-adoption programs ! ! The gala was held at Uvalde Country Club and the 160 available tickets were sold out prior to the activity. Plenty of adult beverages, excellent meal, fashion show, live music, silent and live auction items all added to the festivities of the evening.
Melissa Garnett, event chairman said that people enjoyed the evening, explaining that folks seemed happy to go to a more formal event, get dressed up and have a good time. The event could not have taken place without great committees and good volunteers. The Uvalde Country Club did an excellent job on the dinner and everyone that had anything to do with making the night a success was so greatly appreciated. Mark your 2009 calendar for Feb.7th. Another Fur Ball is on the horizon ! ! !

We
are so fortunate to have two awesome groomers who graciously donate their
grooming services to HSU pets awaiting adoption..
Cori Petty, ( aka CP's Pet Parlor)
on W. Main ( across from Super S Foods) offers professional service in a home style atmosphere.

AND
Gay Faglie ( aka Country Tails Bed & Biscuit )
In addition to offering experienced grooming services, Gay operates a wonderful safe environment for boarding pets, daily, weekly, as needed. It's the only place I know of that takes the borders out 4 times daily for exercise and potty runs. Located outside of town on private acreage, the pets are in a safe and enjoyable environment.

HSU highly endorses both these businesses.

Reba
has one happy tail........................................
read on.
Reba, a red heeler mix, was adopted from HSU by a family in Denver, Colorado who found her picture on our website while searching for a heeler type dog for their family. Here is the e-mail we received following Reba’s air arrival.
“
What an exciting day for us. Reba is a perfect fit. Thank-you for all the
time and energy spent in enabling our family to be complete. Holly has
already trained her to "sit" w/ the incentive of a little
doggie bite; she kept her crate clean all the way to Denver and we were
able to take her outside when she needed to poop and pee before any inside
accidents. She is asleep in her crate in Holly's room (so Holly can take her
outside if she gets up in the middle of the night). Does she usually make
it though the night w/o going outside? I think she's a tired puppy - she
and our other two (Sadie the Lab and Molly the Golden) are getting along great.
She plays w/ Molly and licks Sadie's face. What a darling We can't thank you
enough. Susan, Holly, Amy, Holly, Evan and Barry-”
