FOSTER PROGRAM |
||
|
A
foster family temporarily takes care of an animal until a permanent home
can be found.
At this time, the HS is a foster home only program. Therefore the number of animals rescued relies solely on the number of foster homes available.
How long will I have the foster pet? Although we can never guarantee an exact length of time, our adoptions tend to move fairly quick. We utilize a website (petfinder.com) as well as monthly adoption events to promote our pets. Word of mouth helps out in a small town! We keep current available pets posted at our office and throughout Uvalde. What if it doesn't work out? If you foster a pet and for whatever reason it does not work out, simply let us know and we will make arrangements to move the pet. However, please be patient! We may not be able to remove the pet immediately...remember, we are foster home only! We need time to have a foster parent who is able to take on the pet you have. What if I decide to keep the pet? Foster parents are the best ones to adopt the animal in their care. At times it can be tough to let them go. We never discourage a foster family from adopting a pet in their care. As hard as it is to let an animal go, for those who can fix them up and let them move on so they can help another one, it is an amazing gift. If you have other questions or are interested in fostering, please email Renee and let's get you connected! Check out the forms below.
How to become a foster family:
There are certain requirements that must be met in order for a family to foster.
Dogs/Cats
Dog, You come to me head held low, tongue hanging out the side of your mouth, sad tales in your eyes. Dog, You come to me from the highway, frantic and pacing, feet tough from walking, ribs poking through rough fur. Dog, You come to me a bundle of fear, barking at shadows, growling at ghosts, shrinking from monsters. Dog, You come to me searching for something, nudging my hand, tentatively licking, quiet and soft. Dog, You come to me over and over. I clean you up, then pass you on, wait for the next one. ~Karen R Porter Since we are a foster home only program, our rescue abilities are limited by two factors-the number of homes we have fostering and how quickly our adoptions take place. We primarily rescue from the Uvalde City Pound where animals are euthanized if not claimed by their owners or rescued by our group. If you are thinking of getting a family pet, please consider rescuing....
...You will be saving two lives-the one you take home today and the one rescued tomorrow.
My name is Murphy and I am not sure how I ended up here, but I sure am lonely. I keep waiting and hoping someone will take me out of this cage because from what I hear, my time is short. Won't someone please rescue me? This was Murphy before. Here is Murphy now. Murphy was rescued and has gone to his forever home. Would you like to experience the joy of saving a life? |
