I Need To Re-home My Pet

I Need to Re-Home My Pet

Whether there is a move, divorce or death, we know there are times that a family pet needs to be re-homed.  Our program is foster home only and we focus primarily on rescuing animals from the Uvalde City Pound.  The animals in the pound face certain death without our help, therefore it is very rare and unlikely that our program will take a pet that is currently in a home-regardless of the circumstance.

What are your options?

1. If your dog is a pure breed dog, look for a rescue group by going to www.google.com and typing "(BREED) rescue Texas"  example "lab rescue Texas"
2. We have a Courtesy Listing Program that allows current pet owners to list their pet as available through our website.  See qualifications below.
3. If you need to place your animal immediately, call us to see if space is available.  Please review the Relinquishment Form in advance.

Courtesy Listing Qualifications Include:

1. The animals must be spayed or neutered.
Check out our Spay/Neuter Voucher Program for aide.

2. The animal must be current on vaccinations (rabies if older than three months, distemper/parvo if under three months)

***All adoption fees and arrangements will be made by the owner and the Humane Society will in no way be affiliated with the animal.

We will also invite you to our monthly adoption events.  The animal must meet the above criteria as well as the following:

1. The animal can not be aggressive

2. The owner or another responsible party must stay with the animal throughout the event.

3. The animal must present as healthy-no eye or nose discharge, skin issues or other physical or medical concerns.

4. Felines must test negative for feline leukemia/AIDS prior to the adoption event.  This test is completed at the owners expense at a local vet clinic.

If you are interested in courtesy listing please email the following to COURTESY LISTING
1. picture of the animal & name
2. age
3. breed
4. male or female
5. indoor/outdoor
6. temperament with dogs, cats, kids, people

8. past aggression
9. any information you would want to share about the animal, including why you are needing to re-home.
10. vet records with proof of vaccinations and spay/neuter (or vets name and number)

**If you need to place your animal immediately, please contact us to see if space is available.   Typically it takes us a minimum of 1 week to place an animal into our program.  It is the owner/responsible parties responsibility to pay the cost of initial screening.  Cats are a minimum of $15 each. Should the animal be accepted into the program, we do not require additional financial support, however would appreciate any donation you could make toward your pet and others in our program.**  Please complete the  Relinquishment Form in advance.

LOST/FOUND Animals

If you have a stray animal that you need to drop off or have picked up, please call Uvalde Animal Control dispatch at 830-278-9147.  The Humane Society is not affiliated with Animal Control.  Allowing the animal to be impounded gives the owner a chance to find their missing pet.  Animal Control is the obvious place that all pet owners will look if they have lost a pet.  If you would be interested in adopting the pet should the owner not claim it, a city adoption can be arranged.
